In a major organisational move, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday appointed senior leaders to supervise internal elections across key states ahead of finalising its next national president.

Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Harsh Malhotra, along with former Union Minister and current MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, have been assigned as state election officers for Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal respectively. Their mandate includes overseeing the election of state BJP presidents and national council members.

According to a senior source quoted by The New Indian Express, the BJP is expected to announce its new national president by July 15, once elections in states like Gujarat, Telangana, Tripura, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh are completed.

Insiders further revealed that Punjab and Delhi may get their new state chiefs only after the national president is elected, while announcements for Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh could happen between July 4 and 11.

The party wants to wrap up the entire internal poll process between July 15 and 20, before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins on July 21, where heated debates on contentious national issues are expected.

For now, priority is being given to electing new state presidents in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh between July 1 and 5, while Tripura could get its new leader between June 29 and July 2.
