As the countdown to the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections begins, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its much-anticipated first list of candidates. The announcement comes just days after the Election Commission set the polling dates for the state. Voting will take place in two phases, on November 13 and November 20, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23.
The BJP's first list includes 66 candidates, with prominent names like BJP state president Babulal Marandi, who is set to contest from Dhanwar. Another major figure is former Chief Minister Champai Soren, who will run from Saraikella. Other key names include Lobin Hembrom, who is contesting from Borio, and Sita Soren, sister-in-law of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who has been fielded from Jamtara.
Geeta Balmuchu will represent the party in Chaibasa, while Geeta Koda, wife of former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda, is contesting from Jagannathpur. Meera Munda, the wife of BJP leader and former Jharkhand CM Arjun Munda, has been given the ticket for Potka.
The list also features former Union Minister Sudarshan Bhagat, highlighting the party's strategy of bringing seasoned politicians into the electoral fray. In total, the BJP will contest 68 out of the 81 assembly seats, leaving the remaining seats for its allies.
With this announcement, the BJP is positioning itself to mount a strong challenge in the state, aiming to wrest control from the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance. The party is banking on both seasoned leaders and new faces to connect with voters and secure a victory in the upcoming elections.
