The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made serious allegations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing it of issuing orders to demolish 24 temples in Delhi between 2016 and 2023. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, citing official documents, claimed that AAP leaders, under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal?s leadership, had authorized the destruction of these religious structures.
According to Poonawalla, AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, had issued what he referred to as "fatwas" targeting temples. "The documents that have surfaced publicly clearly reveal that there is no party more deceitful than AAP. From 2016 to 2023, documents bearing signatures show how the AAP chief minister and ministers issued fatwas to demolish nearly 24 temples," Poonawalla said.
The BJP leader specifically pointed to the role of former Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain, who allegedly signed the orders to demolish eight temples in 2016. Poonawalla claimed that Jain had also intervened to protect two mosques, which he described as "unidentified" and without historical significance. However, Poonawalla noted that Jain did not take similar actions to protect the temples.
"In 2016, a fatwa to demolish 8 temples was issued under the signature of Satyendra Jain, the then Home Minister. The intriguing part is that Jain intervened to save two mosques that had no historical importance, but he never spoke up to save the temples," Poonawalla said.
In his remarks, Poonawalla went further, labeling AAP as the "biggest anti-Hindu party in India," and accusing the party of favoring religious minorities over Hindu structures.
