A political controversy has erupted following Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decision to donate his entire match fee to the Indian Armed Forces and the victims of the Pehalgam attack. The donation came in response to a challenge from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which questioned whether the skipper had the “aukat” (capacity) to make such a contribution.
The BJP has strongly condemned the language used by AAP against the national team captain, defending Yadav’s gesture as patriotic and commendable. Responding to the political back-and-forth, Suryakumar Yadav stated: “I actually want personally want to give my match piece of all the games which I've played in this tournament to the Indian army.”
The debate has also highlighted the broader issue of political divisions in India, with leaders taking opposing stances even on matters of national importance, such as responding to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.
