Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and Uttar Pradesh MP Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Saurabh Srivastava after a video surfaced on social media showing him in a heated confrontation with a Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer at Varanasi Junction during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city.
The incident reportedly took place near Gate No. 8 of Banaras station, where security was on high alert due to the Prime Minister’s arrival. According to reports, a female BJP worker was stopped by security personnel from entering a restricted area as part of the security protocol. The move allegedly angered MLA Saurabh Srivastava, who confronted the RPF officer on duty.
Eyewitnesses said the argument quickly escalated, with the MLA demanding the officer’s immediate suspension. In the viral clip, Srivastava and the RPF jawan can be seen pushing each other and exchanging heated words before other officials intervened to separate them.
Reacting strongly to the video, Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of promoting “goondaism” even in the Prime Minister’s own parliamentary constituency. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav wrote, “A case should be registered against such a chaotic BJP MLA for obstructing government work. This is an example of BJP thuggery in the prime parliamentary constituency; as for other places, what more is there to say. Condemnable—punishable!”
The incident has triggered political outrage, with the opposition demanding action against the MLA for allegedly obstructing a government officer on duty. However, there has been no official response or disciplinary action from the BJP so far, nor any police case registered in connection with the altercation.
