Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday raised concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that the names of many legitimate voters have been removed during the process. He claimed that irregularities have been reported from several districts, including Meerut and the state capital, Lucknow.

Speaking to reporters, Yadav said, “During the SIR exercise, many votes have been cut, including those in Meerut and the capital city Lucknow. This is not the first time questions have been raised at the Election Commission.” He stressed that such issues undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

The former Chief Minister said the primary objective of any revision exercise should be to safeguard genuine voters and ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of their right to vote. “During this exercise, genuine voters should be secured,” he added, calling for greater transparency and accountability.
