In a crucial development amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to discuss the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. The meeting, which lasted for around 40 minutes, was a follow-up to the earlier discussion between Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and the Prime Minister on Saturday. Admiral Tripathi briefed Modi on the security situation in the critical sea lanes of the Arabian Sea.
This meeting between the Air Force Chief and the Prime Minister took place just days after PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting that included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs, as well as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The meeting focused on the growing threat of cross-border terrorism and India's preparedness to respond.
Following the deadly Pahalgam attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened to assess the situation and determine a course of action. The attack, which saw 26 innocent lives lost, was reportedly an attempt to disrupt the peaceful elections in Jammu and Kashmir and hinder the region's economic progress. Officials have raised concerns about cross-border links to the attack.
In the wake of the attack, the Indian government reaffirmed its commitment to combatting terrorism, declaring that those responsible and the masterminds behind it would face severe punishment. The armed forces have been granted full operational freedom to determine the timing, targets, and methods of India's response to the situation.
An all-party meeting was also held, where opposition leaders expressed their full support for any action the government deems necessary. Intelligence briefings indicated that the attack was likely orchestrated with cross-border involvement, further escalating concerns over Pakistan's role in supporting terrorism.
