A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Punjab’s Amritsar district on Sunday when Jarnail Singh, a sarpanch associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was shot dead during a wedding celebration at a private resort. The sudden attack triggered panic among guests and raised fresh concerns over public safety at social events.

According to police officials, the shooting took place at the Marigold Resort located on the Amritsar bypass, where Singh had arrived to attend a marriage function. Eyewitnesses said the event was progressing normally when two unidentified men suddenly opened fire at close range, targeting Singh before fleeing the venue.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the firing. Jarnail Singh sustained critical gunshot injuries and was declared dead, sending shockwaves through the local political circle.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Jagjit Singh Walia confirmed the incident and said preliminary findings suggest the attackers were not local residents. He stated that multiple police teams have been deployed to trace the suspects and that their identities have already been established.

“We received information about a firing incident at the resort in the evening. Our senior officers and investigation teams reached the spot without delay. The victim, Jarnail Singh, succumbed to his injuries. We are actively pursuing the accused using both technical surveillance and human intelligence,” Walia said.
