AAP Desperate For Alliance As Talks With Congress Intensify In Haryana And Delhi Amid Seat-Sharing Dispute

As discussions about a potential AAP-Congress alliance in Haryana progress, similar talks for a tie-up in Delhi appear to be in the works, according to sources within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This emerging political collaboration between two key parties in the INDIA bloc could have significant implications for upcoming elections in both regions.

On Wednesday, Deepak Babaria, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Haryana, confirmed that negotiations are ongoing. Speaking about the prospects, Babaria said, ?We are talking to them (AAP) and exploring the possibilities? we are looking for a win-win situation for both parties and the nation. Let us see; this should be finalized in the coming days.?

While the discussions in Haryana seem to revolve around seat allocation, Babaria hinted that the Congress is unlikely to offer AAP more than single-digit seats. Meanwhile, AAP is pushing for a larger share, seeking around 9-10 seats, as reported by Indian Express.

In Delhi, the prospect of an alliance remains more complex. A senior Congress leader remarked that Rahul Gandhi himself has asked the party to explore the possibility of joining forces with AAP in both Haryana and Delhi. However, tensions over seat-sharing are evident. The Congress, which contested three seats in the last Lok Sabha elections, is reportedly eyeing 30 assembly segments, while AAP, in contrast, is not inclined to concede many seats, especially in North East Delhi, according to AAP insiders.

Despite this, internal dynamics within Congress suggest mixed views. One senior leader expressed skepticism about an alliance in both states, remarking, ?The AAP wants an alliance desperately; they have no base in Haryana, why should we concede seats to them??

AAP sources, however, argue that a partnership could revitalize Congress in Delhi, a region where the party hasn?t held any MLA seats since 2015. As one AAP leader put it, ?Tying up with us will be beneficial for them. But both parties need to temper their expectations when it comes to seat-sharing.?

While an alliance in both states seems plausible, much hinges on further discussions and the outcome of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal?s legal matters, which could influence the final agreement. As Babaria noted, the talks are ongoing, and both sides are eager to reach a "win-win" resolution soon.
