The National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped in after reports emerged of a shocking incident in Kolkata, where a law student was allegedly gang-raped inside her college premises by two current students and a former student.
In a statement on Saturday, the NCW confirmed that its Chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, has written to the Kolkata Police Commissioner, expressing grave concern over the matter.
“Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has directed an immediate, time-bound investigation under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She has also stressed the need to ensure full medical, psychological, and legal support for the victim, along with compensation under Section 396 of the BNSS,” the Commission noted.
The NCW has demanded a detailed action-taken report from Kolkata Police within three days and has warned that it will closely monitor the progress of the probe.
The Commission has also highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of women on educational campuses, calling the alleged assault a deeply disturbing violation of trust and security.
