In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 5 arrested two drug peddlers and seized 2 kilograms of MD (Mephedrone) drugs valued at approximately ₹4 crore in the international market. The operation was conducted near the Jogeshwari Bus Depot on May 15.
According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, Police Inspector Nair and his team were patrolling near SV Road in Jogeshwari (West) when they spotted two suspects exhibiting suspicious behavior. Upon intercepting and conducting a search, officers discovered a significant quantity of MD drugs in their possession.
“The accused were carrying around 2 kilograms of MD, a banned synthetic drug, which is estimated to fetch around ₹4 crore internationally,” said an official from the Crime Branch. The arrest and seizure mark a significant blow to the drug network operating in the city.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Amboli Police Station. Authorities have launched a deeper investigation to trace the origin of the drugs and identify the broader supply network.
“Further investigation is underway to uncover the supply chain and identify more people involved in the racket,” the Mumbai Crime Branch added.
