In a significant administrative overhaul, the Uttar Pradesh government has transferred 46 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, including divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and chief development officers (CDOs), in a move aimed at bolstering governance and improving development delivery across the state.
According to officials, the reshuffle — approved by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath — is part of the government’s ongoing effort to ensure efficiency, transparency, and effective implementation of flagship schemes at the grassroots level.
As per the official order, Rajesh Kumar has been appointed Commissioner of Mirzapur, replacing Balakrishna Tripathi, who moves to the state secretariat as Secretary, General Administration Department. Prakhar Singh has been made Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Varanasi, a key posting expected to accelerate work on major urban projects, including the Smart City Mission and the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.
Among the new District Magistrate (DM) appointments:
Ashwini Kumar will take charge as DM of Shravasti
Kritika Jyotsna becomes DM of Basti
Amit Pal assumes office as DM of Kaushambi
Vipin Kumar Jain takes over as DM of Balrampur
Ajay Kumar Dwivedi is appointed DM of Rampur
In other key reshuffles, Dr. Rupesh Kumar has been posted as Commissioner of Saharanpur, while Bhanu Chandra Goswami will serve as Commissioner of Meerut. The list also includes new postings for several municipal and development officers: Vandita Srivastava becomes CDO of Kushinagar, and Himanshu Nagpal has been appointed Municipal Commissioner of Varanasi.
Principal Secretary (Appointments) M. Devaraj stated that the transfers are part of a periodic administrative review conducted based on officers’ performance and the evolving needs of various districts.
“These changes are routine and intended to strengthen administrative delivery and ensure better coordination between departments,” he said.
57 Tehsildars Promoted to Provincial Civil Service (PCS)
In another major development, the Uttar Pradesh government has permanently promoted 57 Tehsildars to Provincial Civil Service (PCS) rank, marking a significant milestone in their careers.
The promotion orders, issued by IAS Annapurna Garg, formalize the status of officers primarily from the 2020 and 2022 batches, who were previously working as Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs).
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the promotions as a “reward for dedication and service,” adding that the decision will boost morale within the state’s administrative machinery. The elevation ensures enhanced pay, pension benefits, and service stability for the officers.
Officials said the move reflects the government’s commitment to recognizing merit and ensuring smooth career progression within the bureaucracy.
With the dual announcements — the transfer of 46 IAS officers and promotion of 57 Tehsildars — the Yogi Adityanath administration has signaled its focus on strengthening administrative efficiency and accelerating governance reforms across Uttar Pradesh.
