In a significant move, the Karnataka government has banned the release or broadcast of the movie 'Hamare Baarah' in the state for two weeks or until further notice. This decision was made in accordance with the Karnataka Cinema Regulations Act 1964, sections 15(1) and 15(5).

Authorities expressed concerns that the release of 'Hamare Baarah' could incite communal tension within the state. This decision followed requests from several minority organizations and delegations, as well as an official review of the movie's trailer.

Initially set to premiere on June 7, 2024, across the country, 'Hamare Baarah' delves into the pressing issue of overpopulation. The film, starring Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, and Paritosh Tripathi, has drawn attention for its provocative narrative.

The stay on the movie's release has raised serious concerns among its producers, who have made substantial investments in its production and distribution. This legal obstacle emerged following a petition by specific religious community activists who challenged the film's release.

The film is directed by Kamal Chandra and jointly produced by Birender Bhagat, Ravi S Gupta, Sanjay Nagpal, and Sheo Balak Singh.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, actor Annu Kapoor discussed the threats received by the cast and crew: ?Our writer for Hum Do Hamare Baaraah is a Muslim; he is suffering more right now because of the situation. I am an atheist. Police have had to visit the houses of the entire female cast too because of death threats. Some fanatics are protesting on social media and spreading hatred. As a precaution, we had to inform the police and court,? he said.
