An Indian Air Force microlight aircraft met with an accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Wednesday afternoon, triggering an immediate response from local authorities and defence personnel. The aircraft went down around midday and landed in a water-filled area near KP College, roughly 12 kilometres from the city limits.
According to preliminary information, both pilots aboard the microlight managed to escape without sustaining serious injuries. Rescue teams reached the crash site promptly and ensured the safe evacuation of the crew. Officials confirmed that the pilots are stable and are undergoing routine medical checks as a precaution.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined. Defence sources said a technical team has been assigned to examine the wreckage and assess whether mechanical failure, weather conditions, or human factors played a role. A formal inquiry has been initiated by the Indian Air Force to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the incident.
The crash has once again brought focus on aviation safety, especially as it comes close on the heels of a tragic air force accident last year. In November 2025, an IAF Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas crashed during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show, resulting in the death of Wing Commander Namash Syal. That incident had sent shockwaves through the defence community, with visuals of thick smoke rising near Al Maktoum International Airport making headlines worldwide.
