A massive religious conversion racket, allegedly masterminded by Chhangur Baba alias Jamaluddin, has been unearthed by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), revealing a shocking misuse of political symbols and a deep web of financial irregularities.
Investigators said that Chhangur Baba falsely presented himself as a senior member of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-affiliated body while meeting political leaders and government officials. In a bid to appear legitimate, he even used Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph on the letterhead of an organization called Bharat Pratikarth Seva Sangh, falsely projecting it as an RSS-linked group.
The organisation was allegedly run by Eidul Islam, another key accused in the case. Islam set up a fake office in Nagpur — the headquarters of the RSS — to boost the outfit’s credibility. Investigators say that during meetings, Chhangur Baba and Islam routinely name-dropped senior RSS leaders to gain trust and influence.
The FIR filed by the ATS reveals that Chhangur Baba was plotting to create a terrorist training facility with foreign funding, receiving over ₹500 crore from international sources, including Gulf countries and possibly Pakistan. The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the financial aspects, has so far found money laundering worth ₹60 crore linked to 22 bank accounts belonging to him and his associates.
Further investigations reveal that Chhangur Baba owned over ₹100 crore worth of properties in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, most of which are said to be on encroached government land. One of his high-profile acquisitions includes a property complex named ‘Ranwal Greens’ in Mumbai, reportedly bought through suspicious means.
Moreover, the ED has discovered documents showing his connection with a Panama-based company named 'Logos Marine', raising further concerns about international financial dealings.
