The Waqf Properties (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Amendment Bill sparked heated debate in the Lok Sabha, with Congress MP KC Venugopal accusing the government of rushing the legislation without allowing amendments.
Raising strong objections, Venugopal said, “This type of bill that you are bringing into the House, at least the members have to have the power to give amendments… You are bulldozing the legislation. This is this type of legislation. You need to give time for amendment. There are several provisions to be given amendment. There is no time at all…”

The bill, which aims to strengthen provisions for the removal of unauthorized occupants from waqf properties, has drawn criticism from opposition leaders, who allege that the government is pushing it through without adequate discussion.
While the BJP-led government argues that the bill will help in protecting waqf assets from illegal encroachments, opposition parties fear it could lead to arbitrary eviction and increased government control over Muslim religious properties.
