Anil Ambani, Chairman of the Reliance ADA Group, is under mounting scrutiny as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensifies its probe into a suspected ₹17,000 crore loan fraud. The central agency has summoned Ambani to appear at its New Delhi headquarters on August 5 for questioning under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

This comes days after the ED conducted widespread raids across 35 locations in Mumbai and Delhi connected to the Reliance Group. The raids, which targeted both corporate offices and private premises, examined the financial records of over 50 companies and 25 individuals believed to be involved in a complex web of suspicious transactions.

At the heart of the probe is Reliance Infrastructure (R Infra), one of the group’s key companies. According to investigation reports, including those shared by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), R Infra allegedly diverted funds worth over ₹8,300 crore through a lesser-known entity named CLE Private Limited. The company, based in Mumbai’s Santacruz area, reportedly has deep links with the Reliance ADA Group, with directors and employees using official Reliance email domains.

SEBI's forensic findings show that between 2013 and 2023, R Infra invested heavily in CLE through inter-corporate deposits, equity infusions, and corporate guarantees. In some years, these dealings made up nearly 90% of R Infra’s total assets, raising serious concerns about transparency and risk exposure. The regulator flagged possible violations of disclosure norms and potential misrepresentation in financial reporting. SEBI’s documents also highlight that Anil Ambani, who controlled over 40% of R Infra until 2019, was centrally involved in these financial decisions.
