Amit Shah’s Big Border Plan For Bengal Sparks Political Heat

With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made a bold election promise that is already stirring political debate across the state.

Shah said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party forms the next government in West Bengal, the process of allocating land for border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border will be completed within 45 days of taking power. He argued that delays in fencing have weakened efforts to control illegal crossings and blamed the current administration for not acting fast enough.

Taking aim at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Shah questioned why the required land had not been handed over to security agencies so far. He suggested that without proper support from the state government, even forces like the Border Security Force cannot function effectively on the ground.

The Home Minister made these remarks while presenting a detailed political document criticising the ruling government, which his party described as a reflection of public grievances. He claimed that concerns over infiltration have created fear among sections of the population and said the BJP intends to address the issue if voted to power.

Shah also linked the border issue to larger concerns such as safety, property security, and social stability, framing the upcoming election as a turning point for the state. He alleged that law and order has weakened under the current regime and promised stricter action against crime, especially crimes against women.

During the interaction, Shah also praised senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari for his role in leading the opposition in the state and challenging the ruling government.
